Between the honey stand and the fresh produce sellers.
On November 19th, 2023, YVSF held another informational booth at the Lost Gatos Farmers Market in Los Gatos, California. We spoke to farmers market regulars for over 4 hours about the plights of drunk driving within our community. We continued our tradition of bringing an informational trifold, flyers, and the intoxicated vision goggles, which were very popular among shoppers. We collected over $150 in donations and marketed our new t-shirts from our online market. We made sure that the chalked out course for the intoxicated vision goggles was more challenging and engaging than any of our past events to increase interest in our booth. We hope that whenever people drink and are faced with the choice of driving, they think back to how challenging simply walking with the goggles was and make the right decision not to. Many of the people we spoke to said they were incredibly grateful to have young students working on fighting community issues that sometimes go ignored. Andrew had the opportunity to interview a few people in detail about their experiences with drunk driving in their lives and in the community; look out for his upcoming article! The farmers market organizers were very excited we took time out of our day to spread a positive message at their event and want us to return!

Our First Event at a School!
Chapter Leader of St. Louis Rishi Tumala and St. Louis event coordinator Samika Kumbham organized a booth on the dangers of drunk driving with New Creation International at MICDS High School at 3-6 p.m. on Sept. 16. YVSF members gave presentations on the dangers of drunk driving, displayed statistics about drunk driving and gave people a simulated vision of driving while drunk. The goggles simulated various levels of drunkenness, from 0.08-.015 BAC, and they surprised many of the people who wore them. In total, 20-25 people, mainly students, showed up at the booth, YVSF received $50 in donations. Additionally, community members shared stories of people around them who had issues with drunk driving. The students at MICDS said they were more confident and knew what they would do if they found themselves in a dangerous drunk driving situation after talking with the team. Overall, a smooth event and the right steps towards empowering the youth!

Starting a Movement Overseas!
Chief Events Officer Alex Huang and Beijing Chapter Leader Boots from YVSF organized events on July 26 and Aug. 11 in Beijing, China. The first event took place at Palm Springs Lifestyle Plaza in the Chaoyang district of Beijing, a busy shopping mall. Alex and Boots walked around the mall in the evening and passed out brochures related to drunk driving. The second event occurred at Taikoo Li Sanlitun, another shopping center in Chaoyang. Alex and Boots continued to engage with the community and handed out more brochures. Alex and Boots spoke to the Beijng Youth about their experiences with drunk driving in China and how they might prevent it. People shared their stories and how they were personally affected and were very excited that this issue was starting to be recognized as a rising issue in China. The brochures contained information related to drunk driving and gave advice related to ways the community can avoid driving while under influence. Alex and Boots translated the YVSF flyers from English to Chinese so those in their community who do not understand English can still be included in the conversation.

A Great Success!
YVSF held an informational booth at the De Anza Flea Market in Cupertino, California on July 1st, 2023, where we spread our message to hundreds of people for over 4 hours. Our organization gained exposure to the 20,000 shoppers at the flea market! Our booth included a trifold detailing drunk driving and how our organization aims to raise awareness, as well as a plethora of other information. Along with the trifold, we passed out flyers with information about our mission, facts and myths about drunk driving, statistics, and how you can prevent drunk driving if you see it. We had a donation box and handed out water bottles for free. The most interactive part of our booth was our intoxicated vision goggles we had attendees try on. These goggles make people see what you would see if you were drunk with a BAC between 0.08 and 0.15. We chalked out a challenging zig-zagged path on the floor had people try to walk through the path with the goggles on without stepping out. We talked to so many people and many of them read our information, took a flyer, donated, and tried the path. Out of the people we spoke to, they said they really appreciated what we were doing and that they learned a lot about drunk driving, why it is so dangerous, and how to stop it if it they witnessed it. Overall, the community was very pleased with what YVSF is doing and hope we continue to spread our message!
